Field Observation & Testing

A well-designed detail can still fail in the field. We observe the enclosure as it is installed, document what we see, and coordinate the testing that demonstrates it performs as designed.

Overview

During construction we act as our client's enclosure consultant: attending pre-installation and OAC meetings, observing and reviewing mockups and first installations, and visiting at the milestones that matter. Every visit ends with a prompt written report the contractor can act on right away.

Field testing is performed by an independent testing lab. We scope the tests, choose locations, observe them, and fold the results into our reports, so the project team has one point of contact.

Scope

What's Included

  • Pre-construction and pre-installation meetings with the enclosure trades
  • Mockup observation and first-install reviews before the corresponding work starts in the field
  • Periodic site visits with written observation reports and photos
  • Testing coordination and oversight performed by an independent testing lab
  • Deficiency tracking from first observation through close-out
Performed by an independent lab

Tests We Coordinate

  • ASTM E1105Field water penetration testing of installed windows and doors
  • AAMA 502Field testing of newly installed fenestration products
  • AAMA 501.2Nozzle water testing of storefront and curtain wall joints
  • ASTM E779 / E3158Whole-building and unit air leakage testing
  • ASTM C1521Field adhesion testing of installed sealant joints
  • ASTM D4541Field pull-off adhesion testing of air and water-resistive barrier membranes
Process

How It Works

  1. Plan the VisitsWe set site visits around enclosure milestones rather than the calendar.
  2. Observe and ReportEach visit produces a report with photos, locations, and recommended corrections.
  3. TestThe testing lab performs the tests while we observe and record the results.
  4. Close OutWe confirm the corrections and issue a final summary.
